Le 12 novembre dernier, le gala Infinity Cares 2021 présentait un don exceptionnel de 100 000 $ à l’Hôpital Montfort. M. Aggarwal fait partie de ce groupe de gens de la communauté indo-canadienne qui ont choisi de reconnaître, ensemble, l’impact de Montfort dans leur communauté.
Né le 18 avril 1946 à Hoshiarpur en Inde, Anand Aggarwal est l’aîné de deux frères et six sœurs. Son père, Bal Gopal, était un modeste marchand de grains reconnu pour sa grande générosité. Dès son jeune âge, Anand était responsable du bien-être de ses frères et sœurs ainsi que celui des gens en général, une valeur que son père leur avait inculquée.
Comme M. Aggarwal nous le souligne, « redonner à la communauté fait partie de la religion hindoue. On nous a appris à donner 10 % de nos revenus à des œuvres de charité. Il faut donner jusqu’à ce que ça fasse mal ! Et plus vous donnez, plus Dieu vous redonne. » Voilà la mentalité qui fait de lui l’homme d’affaires philanthrope que nous connaissons aujourd’hui.
Diplômé en 1967 de l’Institut indien de technologie de Delhi, il a débuté sa carrière au gouvernement fédéral à Ottawa où il joue un rôle crucial dans la résolution de certains problèmes complexes de ventilation et de chauffage dans divers bâtiments à l’aide de la modélisation informatique, son domaine d’études à l’université de l’Alberta.
Alors qu’il était bien installé, ses parents ont pensé que c’était le bon moment pour lui de se marier. En 1973, Anand épouse Saroj, une jeune fille sikhe d’Ottawa; ensemble, ils ont eu deux enfants, Lalit et Jyoti.
En 1989, il fonde le « Manor Park Group » avec la vision d’offrir plus de logements abordables aux résidents d’Ottawa. Aujourd’hui, le « Manor Park Group » fournit des logements abordables à plus de 4 000 familles. L’entreprise de M. Aggarwal s’est également diversifié en gestion financière, qui comprend aujourd’hui cinq hôtels et le Centre des congrès Infinity.
Reconnu et respecté non seulement pour son sens des affaires, Anand Aggarwal l’est aussi pour sa fiabilité et son intégrité. « Même si ce n’est pas beaucoup, je suppose que j’ai pu faire ma part pour le développement économique de cette ville », dit-il, satisfait.
Une générosité familiale
Anand et Saroj Aggarwal ont veillé à ce que leurs enfants obtiennent tout ce dont eux avaient manqué dans leur jeunesse afin d’assurer le succès de leur avenir. Lalit a fait carrière dans la banque d’investissement et est maintenant un économiste renommé qui aide le gouvernement de l’Ontario. Entre autres, il est aussi président du conseil d’administration de la Commission des alcools et des jeux de l’Ontario, membre de plusieurs conseils d’administration, dont celui de l’Hospital for Sick Kids de Toronto, et président du groupe Manor Park Management. Lalit croit dans cet investissement pour l’avenir du développement de Vanier, un quartier qu’il fréquente depuis sa jeunesse.
Jyoti n’était pas en reste. Elle est active en santé publique à Boston et est directrice principale de l’économie de la santé et de la recherche sur les résultats. Elle fournit gratuitement de la nourriture, une éducation sanitaire et des bilans de santé aux personnes dans le besoin.
Un don exceptionnel d’une communauté indo-canadienne généreuse
Le 12 novembre dernier, le gala Infinity Cares 2021, qui s’est tenu au Centre des congrès Infinity, présentait un don exceptionnel de 100 000 $ pour l’Hôpital Montfort. M. Aggarwal fait partie de ce groupe de gens de la communauté indo-canadienne qui ont choisi de reconnaître, ensemble, l’impact de Montfort dans leur communauté. Pour lui, Montfort est un choix logique : « Je gère des propriétés où les locataires comptent sur cet hôpital et c’est l’Hôpital qui sert les membres de ma famille. »
L’élément déclencheur qui aura convaincu M. Aggarwal et son groupe de remettre ce don exceptionnel à l’Hôpital Montfort provient d’une conversation avec Dr Rohit Gandhi, médecin urgentologue à l’Hôpital Montfort et chercheur à l’Institut du Savoir Montfort, lors de son mariage. Dr Gandhi l’a convaincu que de faire un don à Montfort était le meilleur choix.
Anand Aggarwal conclut en partageant ce conseil pour la jeune génération : « Continuez à produire, continuez à travailler. C’est maintenant ou jamais ! La constance est la sauce secrète du succès. »

Anand Aggarwal: a new donor from afar who is making an impact here
Born on April 18, 1946 in Hoshiarpur, India, Anand Aggarwal is the oldest of two brothers and six sisters. His father, Bal Gopal, was a modest grain merchant known for his generosity. From a young age, Anand was responsible for the welfare of his siblings and the public in general, a value that his father instilled in them. As Mr. Aggarwal points out, « Giving back to the community is part of the Hindu religion. We have been taught to give 10% of our income to charity. You have to give until it hurts! And the more you give, the more God gives back. » This is the mentality that makes him, the philanthropic businessman we know today.
He graduated in 1967 from IT Delhi, an internationally renowned institute and began his career with the federal government in Ottawa where he was instrumental in solving some complex ventilation and heating problems in various buildings using computer modeling, his field of study at the University of Alberta.
While he was well settled, his parents thought it was the right time for him to get married. In 1973, Anand married Saroj, a Sikh girl from Ottawa, and together they had two children, Lalit and Jyoti.
In 1989, he founded the Manor Park Group with the vision of providing more affordable housing for Ottawa residents. Today, the Manor Park Group provides affordable housing to over 4,000 families.
Mr. Aggarwal’s company has also diversified into financial management, which now includes five hotels and the Infinity Conference Centre.
Anand Aggarwal is known and respected not only for his business skills, but also for his reliability and integrity. « Even if it’s not much, I guess I’ve been able to do my part for the economic development of this city, » he says, satisfied.
A family generosity
Anand and Saroj Aggarwal made sure their children got everything they missed out on in their youth to ensure their future success. Lalit has had a career in investment banking and is now a renowned economist who assists the Ontario government. Among other things, he is also Chairman of the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, a member of several boards including the Hospital for Sick Kids in Toronto and Chairman of Manor Park Management Group. Lalit believes in this investment for the future development of Vanier, a neighbourhood he has lived in since his youth.
Jyoti was not to be outdone. She is active in public health in Boston and is senior director of health economics and outcomes research. She provides free food, health education, and health checkups to those in need.
An exceptional gift from a generous Indo-Canadian community
On November 12, the Infinity Cares 2021 Gala, held at the Infinity Convention Center, presented an outstanding $100,000 donation to Hôpital Montfort. Mr. Aggarwal is one of a group of people from the Indo-Canadian community who have chosen to recognize, together, the impact of Montfort in their community. For him, Montfort is a logical choice: « I manage properties where the tenants rely on this hospital and it is the hospital that serves my family members. »
The trigger that convinced Mr. Aggarwal and his group to give this exceptional gift to Hôpital Montfort came from a conversation with Dr. Rohit Gandhi, an emergency physician at Montfort and a researcher at the Institut du savoir Montfort, during his wedding. Dr. Gandhi convinced him that donating to Montfort was the best choice.
Anand Aggarwal concluded by sharing this advice for the younger generation: « Keep producing, keep working. It’s now or never! Consistency is the secret sauce of success. »
